Troubleshooting "Out of Range" warnings in REDCap

Problem

Out of range pop up during data entry.

Solution

Out of range alerts are designated by the study designer as a means to ensure valid data entry.

  1. Select the Close icon on the pop-up window.

  2. Verify the data entered is correct.

    1. Ensure the data entered into the numerical or text field has been appropriately entered, especially if transcribing from paper.

    2. Double check that the units are correct (e.g., pounds not kilograms).

  3. If the data is:

    1. Correct - you may receive the warning again, but proceed with data entry. If there is a notes field, document the reason for the out of range data.

    2. Incorrect - correct the error and proceed with data entry.

Data range warnings are set up by Program Managers and/or Integrated Discovery Program (IDP) Neuroinformatic Leads.
